Almafi Coast Trip

I'm going to have to back track and post out of order, because I really want to keep up with the trips I take. Rome pictures/posts can be compiled more into the same posts. This weekend, the 15-17, our group went to the Almafi Coast... We stayed in Sorrento for 2 nights at a hostel (more like a campground) right on the beach. Despite having no air conditioning... lots of bug bites... and all of the dirt and grime that comes with "camping", it was extremely worth having our private beach view and access... for 17 euro a night. We left Rome at 7 AM and arrived in Naples (Biggest shit hole of a town I've ever seen, literally. It's dirtier than any major city I've been to, times thirty.) Once in Naples, we got off our train and had 45 minutes until what we thought was our next train to Sorrento. After a lot of asking around, we had different directions from about 5+ different people who only spoke half English. As it turns out, we had to take a bus to a harbor and ride a ferry to Sorrento... We literally got on the ferry the minute they were putting up the gates. Whew.

This is me happy to be entering Sorrento. :] I look like my mom here, I think, yeah? More pictures of the harbor area in Sorrento...

The following pictures are the view walking down the cliffs to "our" beach at our campground. Cliff jumping anyone?! So much fun!

Here are most of the guys in our group sitting cliffside as the sun is going down... We checked into our hostel around 2 PM and stayed at "our beach" for the rest of the afternoon. We went back into the city of Sorrento to grab some dinner and check out the town where we heard the nightlife was cool. "Spaghetti" Ice cream for dessert!!

Ian got gelato... And a captain's hat for the next day's festivities:

Sorrento is home to the liquor Limoncello. It was only appropriate to get some after dinner. Look at all of the fancy bottles in the market!

We went back to our campground and sat around having nice conversations and playing card games. We had to be up early the next day to catch our ferry to Capri! :D Here are a few images entering Capri, from the ferry:

Seriously, the clearest water I've ever seen. Kind of terrifying to open your eyes under water and see literally, EVERYTHING. Fish, reef, rock, etc. So beautiful. We spent most of the day on a private boat, it was small, which was nice because we were able to actually "drive" into the caves and swim. The blue grotto was closed for the weekend because the waves were too high. :[ But here is what they call the "little blue grotto." Unique lighting conditions, along with the amount of limestone rock creates an extremely blue color in the water inside the cave. Pictures don't turn out so well, but this is the access to the "little blue grotto" behind our captain.

We did lots of swimming around and we found this awesome rock in the middle of the water that had a hole you could swim through. Here is its above water access:
It's impossible to swim above water through it because with the waves... That'd be incredibly painful. In fact, I hit my head on the rock coming up from it... and from swimming through it and kicking, I have a nice gash in my left foot. Here is me swimming through it... Props to Jill for having an awesome underwater camera. :]

After leaving Capri, we went back to Sorrento and went to "our beach" again before going out again for the night. It was the perfect weekend. I've already decided my honeymoon will be there whether my husband wants to come along or not. :P

More soon!
Xoxo
